Dear Colleagues,

It’s almost September and we’re nearing the end of Summer here (or end of
Winter for our friends south of the Equator!) and that means that conference
season is about to start – including AEGC 2019 (2-5 Sept) in Perth WA, SEG 2019
(15-20 Sept) in San Antonio TX and SAGA 2019 (6-9 Oct) in Durban RSA. And so
we’ll look forward to a new selection of interesting geophysical papers to
come out of these three conferences, in particular.

But I’m writing you with the following announcements:

1) Speaking of our friends down south and AEGC 2019 in Perth, I wanted to
mention/announce that SEGMIN will be having an informal social
get-together with our ASEG friends during the after-conference Happy Hour at
the UTS Geophysics / Geotech Booth
(#23B), on Tuesday between 5:30-6:30PM. The idea is that instead of a formal
meeting at dawn, as has been the case in previous
AEGC/ASEG-PESA meetings, having it during the conference happy hour will avoid
the conflict of going to a bar outside and enjoying free beer
instead! Our thanks to Kim Francombe for this suggestion. Hopefully we’ll see
many of you – it’s a good opportunity to see to “put face to email”
amongst our fellow SEGMIN listers ! Welcome one and all.

2) As a reminder that for those of you who will be attending SEG 2019 in
San Antonio in slightly more than three weeks’ time that, in addition to the
two MG technical sessions that will be held on Wednesday 18 Sept (as previously
announced in Sarah Devriese’s email from earlier in July – attached below),
we will be holding our annual MG Committee Meeting for any/all SEGMIN members
(or future members):

The SEG Mining Committee meeting is scheduled for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday,
September 18, in Room: Bowie A, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Antonio.
We have estimated attendance at 12, but the room will be set up for as many as
20 people. We’ll be meeting to discuss the planning for the 2020
SEGMIN Mining Summit next year in Houston, TX, as well as other issues of
interest to our members. We’ll distribute an agenda/program shortly.
Hope to see you there.

Thank you and have a terrific end-of Summer (or Winter).

Cheers, Jean
SEG Mining Committee Chair

Subject: [SEGMIN] Mining sessions at SEG Annual Meeting 2019

Hello everyone,

The Mining sessions during the technical program at the SEG Annual Meeting in
San Antonio are at the following times:

Wednesday September 18, 0830 - 1150
MG 1: New Methods and Developments (oral presentations), Room 301D

Wednesday September 18, 1350 - 1620
MG P1: New Methods and Case Histories (poster presentations), Poster Station 10

I also encourage you to register for the following:
Thursday September 10, 0830 - 1230
W-10 Misac Nabighian Memorial Workshop
· Workshop Goals: Dr. Misac Nabighian was a pioneer in applied geophysics, an
extraordinary scientist, a great teacher and mentor, and an extraordinary human
being. To remember and to honor Dr. Misac Nabighian and to celebrate his life
and accomplishments, the SEG Gravity and Magnetics Committee and the SEG Mining
and Geothermal Committee will hold this a special postconvention workshop. The
workshop will have contributions in gravity, magnetic, electrical, and
electromagnetic methods with applications in mineral and hydrocarbon
exploration.
· Workshop format: The workshop is going to be made of different types of
presentations, both technical, non-technical, and a mix of memories and
geophysics. It is structured in two parts, the first one with invited oral
presentations focused on gravity and magnetic methods. And the second part with
oral presentations focused on mining and electromagnetic methods. After each
part, there will be time for questions and poster discussion.

You can find the complete technical program schedule
here<https://seg.org/Annual-Meeting-2019/Education/Technical-Program>.

For a non-mining year, I think the program looks quite interesting with lots of
common threads between presentations. Thank you to the authors for submitting
and equally thank you to those who helped review the abstracts earlier this
year.

Take care,
Sarah Devriese
