Ken,
I congratulate you on this very well done article on Lundberg.
Only, I missed the reference to “Dyslexic Mentor “ as the title. For all his
conversancy in 8 languages and authorship of over 70 papers, he would seem to
be anything but dyslexic. Also, well done on ensuring his addition the the
Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
However, after reading of Lundberg's 70 odd papers I was surprised at the very
short reference list, and only one by Lundberg. Perhaps this 1948 paper covers
most of his earlier work. In one of my papers on early geophysics in Australia
(ASEG Preview, #190), I referred to his 1929 paper in the AIME, Geophysical
Prospecting, 87-124. No doubt it is one of the 70.
His being possibly the first minerals geophysicist in the world may need some
qualification as to type of method, practicality, success, etc. Otherwise, one
might suggest Fox,1835, for electrical methods alone. The equipotential method,
for example, was used in various mine districts in Australia in 1903 although
unlike Lundberg and Nathorst in 1918, possibly without success.
Continue your interest in the history of our profession.
