At first, when I saw the name "General Salami" I though it might be satire.  
But the Independent also reported it (and a few other less reliable, more 
credulous media outlets).  The Independent identified it as the ADE 651, which 
is one of the dowsing units sold in large quantities ($38M worth) to Iraq as a 
bomb detector (for which the U.K.-based seller did time in jail).
