Dear colleagues, Our inaugral EMinar on Wednesday by Martyn Unsworth on "Magnetotelluric studies of Andean magmatism" was very successful, both in terms of portraying just what MT can do in addressing geological/tectonic problems and in terms of global attendance. Over 210 people watched the seminar, from Japan to California, with many others sending me emails of apology for having registered but not being able to attend.
If you want to see the webinar, go to the EMinars web page: http://www.mtnet.info/webinars/webinars.html Or view it on the brand spanking new and shiny MTNet youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCttyEyUBjLAk8ieBwGN6z4Q The next EMinar is in two weeks (4 November) by me on "MT acquisition, from Survey Design to Field Procedures", and there are already 150 people registered. If you want to register, go to this link: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_qXoZRWBNS9iQ4j2IYHS16Q The week after that (11 Nov) we have a very special webinar by Patricia de Lugao, who is this year's SEG 2020 Honorary Lecturer for Latin America. Patricia will speak on "Environment-friendly exploration using magnetotellurics". Register here for that webinar: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_xqNHDsdNQRKBUXbAMcZ66A And the week after that (18 Nov) is Max Moorkamp on "Distinguishing melt and fluids from graphite in the lower crust with multi-physics inversion", and register for that one at this link: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_85IxnUWSRhmnb0YaYr2a6A We are soliciting webinars also from non-EM people and from industry, and they will appear in the programme, so please check back often: http://www.mtnet.info/webinars/webinars.html We are also seeking webinars from code-writers, as long as the code is freely available (and preferably Open Source and Open Platform), and we have some lined up already. And some webinars on career choices by academics, research lab people and especially by industry. The capacity for these EMinars is 500 participants, and I hope that becomes a problem someday! But still, can I ask that you not register unless you are fairly certain you will attend - registration up to the start of the webinar is permitted. Also, can I ask that you register only once using one email address - some people registered for Martyn's more than once with different email addresses (which I find odd and don't understand?). We are filling out the schedule for this first Season of EMinars to Sept 2021, and given the tremendous interest we are having to go to almost every week. We are trying to balance location, topic, seniority and gender. You'll note I have already started to fill in some EMinars for Season 2. These EMinars are at different times each week depending on the location of the speaker. I am asking those in Asia/Australasia if they could present in their evenings, those in Europe to present in their afternoons, and those in North America to present in their mornings, but the choice of time is entirely up to each speaker to decide. Finally, we thank Complete MT Solutions for sponsoring this EMinar series. If you have any comments or advice, please let us know. With very best regards, and everyone please Stay Safe!
