Nick -- Some very fair comments. As alleged "specialists" I think that we often can't see the forest for the trees. I will admit that sometimes we have to temper expectations, but we also need to learn to work with people, like Friedland, who are able to bring our work to the masses. As Brendan Behan said "there's no such thing as bad publicity (except your own obituary)."
As for specialists vs generalists, here's an interesting book review by Bill Gates: We need more Rogers | Bill Gates (gatesnotes.com)<https://www.gatesnotes.com/Books/Range?WT.mc_id=20201223100000_EOYBooks2020_BG-LI_&WT.tsrc=BGLI>. Score 1 for the generalists, at least in the geosciences. He talks up his ore deposits the same way he talks up his geophysical technology. It may be over the top, but there is no doubt he sparks interest and excitement about our business. I and many others worked with the Zeus data in Mongolia, and its successor Typhoon in 4 continents, using robust 3D forward and inverse modelling. They are amazing systems that allow novel survey designs using huge transmitter dipoles and offsets, which together allow deeper penetration than most. But they are specialty tools that don't come cheap, and they can't beat physics: Their deepest results come in very resistive rocks, as in Mongolia. Other name brand geophysical tools have achieved surprising depths in resistive terrain, as shown by Marina, Ross and team at GA a few years ago: http://www.geotech.ca/documents/VTEM_Depth_Kombolgie_Australia.pdf<http://www.geotech.ca/documents/VTEM_Depth_Kombolgie_Australia.pdf> Cheers, Nick Get Outlook for Android<https://aka.ms/ghei36> ________________________________ From: SEGMIN <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> on behalf of [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Sent: Friday, January 22, 2021 1:31:31 PM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Subject: SEGMIN Digest, Vol 31, Issue 18 CONFIDENTIALITY CAUTION: This email (including any attachments) is intended only for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed and may contain confidential information and be protected by legal privilege.
