SEISA, I have received some questions regarding voting on hosts of district championships at the meeting this weekend.
When we vote on the hosts of district champs, all Regular and Provisional members are allowed to vote, since they are both eligible to compete in district champs. However, we always ask that teams who dont plan to compete in a championship abstain from the host vote. True, its hard for teams to say which champs they are going to compete in - especially for Singles and Sloops since theyre next academic year, and especially for teams that might make huge strides this the spring and end up sending a team to say womens or team racing champs in April when they doubt it now in February. But still, the request is that if your team doesnt plan on going, please feel free to abstain. For votes on host of district champs, simple majority wins. In the case of a tie, SEISA officers vote. Hopefully there wont be any ties, and if there is one I encourage the teams to try to work it out somehow before resorting to officer tie break. After all teams are the ones competing in the event. Often times these votes are split geographically because of travel time (and expense). However, in the best interests of the district and having a contest that best determines SEISAs teams representing us at Nationals, the following factors should be considered, in no particular order: 1. Quality of regatta management at the host 2. Size of fleet should be enough to prevent or minimize byes 3. type of boat (420 vs. FJ) as ICSA champs 4. weather, waters, wind similar to ICSA champs venue 5. etc I hope this helps. If there are any concerns or questions please feel free to give me a call on my cell phone, even during the meeting Ill be available.
