Hey SEISA,
For those of you who did not attend the annual meeting on Sunday, I just
wanted to introduce myself as the new Women's Coordinator and give you all a
heads up on what I will be trying to do this year.
I know this is a position that has been pretty stagnant over the years, but
considering one of the main issues discussed in the meeting was MOVING FORWARD,
especially in terms of membership, I figured this would be a good time to work
on getting the ladies out there and struttin' their stuff.
Here are two things I want each of you to work on this year:
1. Let your crew drive to and from practice.
I've seen it done before, and there's no reason to be intimidated by this.
Just getting to see the water from a different perspective not only helps crews
understand what makes the boat move, but allows skippers to see how things like
weight placement and jib trim affect their own speed. This will also help you
gals see that it's not so scary after all.
2. Whenever possible, enter two teams into a regatta: a Co-ed team and a
Women's team.
I know it's hard to spare teammates at times, but from what I heard at the
meeting, membership rates are beginning to increase. Therefore, you can kill
two birds with one stone, not only allowing more members of your team to sail,
but also meeting the qualifications to send a Women's team to District Champs.
If you all have any questions regarding "girl stuff", you can always contact
me here in Texas.
Also, if you'd like me to email any of the girls on your team to try to get
them out on the water, shoot me an email with their contact info.
It was great seeing all of you this weekend, and I look forward to a
productive year!
