SEISA, here are abbreviated minutes from the meeting Sunday. 2006 SEISA Annual Meeting Called to order at 9:15 Officers present: Blake Billman, Scheduling Coordinator Karl Kleinschrodt, President James Morley, Vice President Josh Knapp, Womens coordinator
Schools present/team reports: Tulane's sailing site and yacht club were destroyed, but they are getting 6 new 420s March 15. They are working hard to build the team back, and they brought 8 people to Q#1, 4 participated in the clinic. Good attendance at first spring team meeting. UWF- Recieved FEMA grant, replacing destroyed equipment from Ivan, working to rebuild team, having trouble getting experienced sailors at UWF to get involved in their sailing team. Attended a joint practice with USA this spring. UNO- Hulls OK, getting new masts, sails, rudders. Small team so far, but working to rebuild. Goal is to be racing again by end of the semester. KU- Growing numbers of dedicated members, with less members quitting the team/club than in the past. Good intersectional performance last fall at Timmes and KH. UT- Great job hosting 05 nationals. Represented SEISA at Womens Singlehanded Champs. Pulled off the biggest Q#1 in history (I think). TAMU- Growing well, over 30 members, 2 coed teams at Q#1. OU- Growing, competed in 2 intersectionals last fall. SMU- Have been able to get 4-5 boats out at practice 2 days per week, which is a big improvement. OSU-Hosted their first SEISA regatta with much success. Have over 80 people signed up with their sailing club, with a core group who comprised the team. USA has much fewer sailors than in the past. However, USA was nationally ranked for most of the spring 05 season for the first time in the teams history (19th). Purchased UTs 8 FJs. Host yacht club and sailing site destroyed in Katrina, yacht club is being rebuilt currently. TAMUG placed well and sloop and singlehanded nationals. They have lower membership right now than in the past and are working hard to recruit and train new members. LSU (not present, report provided by Robin Reger TAMUG '05)- Robin has made contacts at Pelican Yacht Club who seem supportive. Having some trouble with the rec sports coordinator, but she is confident she will be able to revive LSU sailing. Springhill (not present, report provided by Karl) -Springhill worked out insurance issues, but is having trouble being recognized as a student organization by rec sports. They were planning on attending the clinic/meeting but the school would not let them join SEISA yet, so they decided not to attend. MEMBERSHIP OU and OSU were advanced to regular membership. LSU was bumped to associate. SCHEDULING Weekend #2- Harris Kempner @ TAMUG, 5 SEISA teams plan to attend so far. Weekend #3- No teams are willing to travel or have funds to travel for a clinic, so there is nothing planned in SEISA this weekend. Weekend #4- TAMUG will host Nelson Roltsch Intersectional in 12 420s. Weekend #5- OSU has offered to host Leukemia Cup for Tulane/UNO/SYC since 420s won't be delivered by then and Flying Scots aren't an option. Weekend #6- SMU is on spring break, but will do their best to host. Weekend #7- Since Baylor didnt host last Fall, and did not attend the meeting, Baylors regatta has been moved to USA in 8 FJs.
