SEISA Qualifier #6
St. Patrick’s Day Regatta
Hosted by University of South Alabama

Teams arrived promptly at 9:00. Boats were rigged and
in the water by 9:30. A skippers meeting was held at
9:30 and we had a 30 minute discussion about team
racing. Everyone decided that if there were time
after the races, we would sail a team race
scrimmage/clinic. The first race started at 10:30. 8
races were sailed with A and B division racing
together. Races were concluded at 3:00. After a
lunch break, everyone went back out for team racing at
4:00 and sailed until 6:00 Team Racing Results are
below.

Temps were in the 60s and everyone got very sunburned.
Races 1-2 were sailed in a steady 15 knot northerly
with gusts near 20 which caused 3 capsizes. Races 3-4
were sailed in a very shifty 5-15 knots. We moved the
race course farther away from land for the remainder
of the races. Races 5-8 were sailed in a shifty, dying
2-12 knots. The shifty, puffy conditions made for some
great racing and interesting spectating.

Thanks to the teams that made it to the regatta during
spring break. Thanks to the people who helped with
the races: Jon Few USA ’03, Joe Arbour USA ’08,
Bernard Moseby Jr. USA ’09, Chaz Stewart USA ’10,
Meghan Alesce USA ’09.

Please see attached document for A and B division
breakdown and RP info.

TEAM RACING SCRIMMAGE RESULTS:

The team racing began at 4:00 in a shifty 3-13 knots.
The blue team was mostly USA sailors and a UWF team.
The red team was a combination of other teams and USA
alum. Thanks to Jimmy Wacker for bringing his 40 foot
spectator boat with all the extra sailors and many
yacht club members who enjoyed spectating the action.

4 of the 5 races were extremely close with multiple
marktraps and passbacks on every leg. There were very
few collisions, but many fouls and 360 penalty turns.
Thanks to the sailors for putting in an 8 hour day on
the water.
