For those attending this weekends team racing event at USA here are a few
links to help you freshen up on the rules, combinations, and moves.

Rules:

Combinations:
You should always be working toward a stable combination. A stable
combination means that it is easy to defend and control the race from that
position. Don't get caught thinking your 1-4-5, 2-3-5, or even 1-3-X is ok.

*3 versus 3* (we only do 3 vs. 3 in college), if you do 2 vs. 2 in practice
the team with a 4th always looses.

   - 1st place = 1 point, 2nd place = 2 points, 3rd place = 3 points, ...

   - 10 points or less wins

*Winning Combinations* *Stable Combinations* *Unstable Combinations* 1-2-X
1-2-X 2-3-6 versus 1-4-5 1-3-X 2-3-4 1-3-5 versus 2-4-6 1-4-5
2-3-5 versus 1-4-6 2-3-4
1-3-6 versus 2-4-5 2-3-5

Moves:
Team Racing Definitions for moves and specific situations with examples:

Starts, there are 2 strategies here;
1) geographic: you pre assign who will start at the boat pin and middle of
the line and stick to that plan.
2) pairs: you pre-assign an opponent to cover and stick with them

Either way, you want your boat and middle teams to be to leeward of their
opponents and the pin team to be to windward.

Study ahead of time, don't try to learn this stuff on the water.

Good luck this weekend!
