Dear SEISA teams & leaders,

Congratulations on the great work you've done (especially Blake, Chris and
other leaders) to build up SEISA. Your website & FB page are excellent and
contain a lot of useful info. The homepage will look even sharper with your
new burgee. You've got a broad mgmt. team of officers and chairmen to increase
the participation in running & developing SEISA.

I'm glad to see that you have continued the SEISA Standard Sailing Instructions
that we created back in the late 80s to simplify regatta mgmt. at local &
district regattas.

One of the most impressive features of your website is the TEAMS member-
ship area. It's great to see many of the original SEISA teams still in there,
along with some new teams. I'm listing 18 teams below that were members of
SEISA at various times in the past 53 years. Perhaps some of you have friends
from high school, Laser sailing, Jr. or Opti sailing, your local sailing clubs,
etc. who attend one of these schools. You could be the key contact that helps
Blake or your SEISA Membership and Development Coordinators to bring these
schools into SEISA. Here they are:

Alabama----
Auburn - are they back in SAISA now?
SpringHill College - an original SEISA member (Mobile Bay)

Florida----
PJC - Pensacola Jr. College (Gulf of Mexico)

Kansas----
Wichita State - in the past I believe there was some support for a program
by Bill Koch (America3 in 1992, maxi guy w/Matador and 12 Metre KZ7).

Louisiana----
   McNeese State - Lake Charles
   Northwest State - Nachitoches ("nack-eh-tish")
   Southeastern La. - Hammond
Univ. of La. at Lafayette - the Ragin' Cajuns (really could party...)

Mississippi----
Univ. of Miss. - Ole Miss, Jackson

Texas----
   Lamar - Beaumont
Our Lady of the Lake - San Antonio (Woodlawn Lake)
Southwest Texas - San Marcos (Canyon Lake)
TCU - Ft. Worth (Eagle Mtn. Lake)
Texas A&I - Alice (Lake Corpus Christi)
   Univ. of Houston - Houston
Univ. of Hou. at Clear Lake - Clear Lake
   UT Dallas
   UT San Antonio

A final word-----why am I taking the time to help you? It's the VALUE of what
college sailing does. Many of you may have come from programs where you
started in Optis at age 10 and had great coaching......I didn't have this
advantage but, thanks to Tulane Sailing I started at a level far beyond where
many people start in sailing.....I was very lucky and it changed my life. This
is my 40th year of racing and it's ranged from Lasers to several of the 12
Metres
in the Newport fleet, thousands of miles. When I skippered Courageous (yes,
Ted Turner's boat in 1977) in a race back in 1998 I was indeed grateful to
Tulane & college sailing. You'll see.....down the road, you'll look back some-
day and realize how great college sailing is....and what it did for you. Maybe
you'll even want to "give back a little of your time or money" to help a team.

I went to my first sailing club meeting and sat across from Buddy Friedrichs,
Barton Jahncke and Click Shreck--they had just returned to New Orleans after
winning Olympic gold medals in the Dragon class at the 1968 Olympic Regatta in
Acapulco, Mexico. Inspiration?----you bet! There's Scott Young in
Austin, Barton Jahncke in New Orleans, and others around the SEISA area.
Let them tell you and your freshmen about what sailing has been in their life.
Start that dream machine!

Best wishes,
Tripp Alyn
