I want to apologize for getting this out at the last minute. Over the past year the overall level of competition within SEISA has definitely picked up as compared to a few years prior. In addition to new teams (re)joining our regatta circuit, the over all organization of our district continues to improve (thanks for all your work Blake). In order to keep the momentum that SEISA is gaining it is important that teams become more involved in the district, both by speaking up as to what steps teams would like to see the board take, as well as by continuing to help young teams. At the Winter Meeting in Park City, Utah earlier this month, the ICSA board made some changes that are sure to be exciting to SEISA.
Highlights of ICSA Winter Meeting: 1) Beginning in Fall 2010 the ICSA Sloop National Championship will be changed over to incorporate a Match Racing format. A number of yacht clubs in our district already host match racing regattas, and this format is sure to get more sailors, who may have shied away from the typical dinghy format of collegiate sailing, actively involved in sailing sloops. 2) After the success of the 2009 ICSA National Semi-finals in Boston, every attempt (starting in 2011) will be made to combine the Eastern and Western semi-final regattas into one venue to maintain the National Championship "feel" that was in Boston. 3) Assuming all goes as planned, there will be a regatta held during the second half of National Coed's for the 18 teams who did not make it past the Semi-final round. The regatta is to be held in Manhattan in conjunction with Fleet Week. As SEISA teams are often part of this group - although hopefully SEISA teams will break this trend this year - we would get the opportunity to publicize ourselves at a very competitive, high profile event. Details are still being worked out. Please feel free to contact me with any comments or concerns, and I look forward to seeing everyone at Q1 in Austin this weekend.
