*The first Annual Buff Alpine Regatta was a success!* The stars we aligned
for the Boulder Sailing Club for Saturday April 2nd regatta, it was warm and
windy. The day started out light with patchy wind, the first race was
postponed for half an hour while we waited for it to fill in. By 11am it
had filled in nicely from the south west building to 12 knots by noon when
it began to be shifty and shift around a bit before the gusty west wind
filled in around 2. We saw some gusts around 30 knots but most of the
afternoon was a blustery 15 to 20 knots. The colorado Teams were the only
teams that didn't capsize throughout the day. 18 races were sailed by 7
different teams. The University of Colorado Sailing team raced two births,
they also had a non-collegiate team, as the Boulder Sailing Club team. The
other teams were University of Texas, Oklahoma State University, Kansas
University, and Baylor University. The Colorado Sailing Team would like to
thank all the SEISA teams who showed up and our Race Pro, Jim Young, who
volunteered his time to run the regatta, Thanks Jim! We would also like to
thank Union Sailing Club and the City of Longmont for allowing us to host
our 1st regatta, and use of their comity boat and docks to rotate teams. I
would also like to personally thank all the sailing team members, friends,
and family who came out to support the Colorado Sailing Team. This was a
huge success and a milestone for our club, and I cannot wait to host another
regatta. Our goal by this time next year is to host a 3x3 which will be
possible by raising funds to purchase two more FJ's, this will allow us to
get more sailors on the water and to run a more completive and fun regatta!
