Jens,

Agreed C to Python is easier, but since S files are ASCII already, python can
handle it fairly easily directly.

Austin Holland already has a very nice S-file parser in Python, which he
shares, and that should probably be brought into SEISAN for the next release
(as well as integrated with ObsPy somehow if they would accept it into the
distro). THanks for sharing the code Austin!

Regards,

Paul

we have a subroutine in seisan that puts all variables in s-file into a fortran
common block and a routine to write it all out again. In SeisanExplorer it is
all put into a c-structure and the two subroutines are called from c so there
is a functionallity to read and write s-files in both fortran and c. this could
be a good starting point. i thin a c-routine wouild be easier to inegrate with
other programs than Python.

I had started one using obspy's QUAKEML functionality but have not gotten
too far. It was also not intended to account for every possibility in
SEISAN files, just the stuff that we routinely use.
