Sir
i am calculating the Richter magnitude from single station data. For that i
using Z component (always????) of the trace after pressing WA and by selecting
the window (4 -5 sec near S-wave arrival) i am getting the amplitude in nm. But
in some cases the P wave component of Z is more than that of S-wave, at the
same time the other component E and N shows S wave amplitude more than P-wave.
In such case which component i may use for magnitude calculation.
Secondly E , N gives large ( large amplitude due to soil amplification ???) and
Z traces gives less amplitude.
In such case which trace one should use to calculate the Richter magnitude
for local event (<100km) with what filter range.
Regards
Sachin
