I've just tried using 'default=current user' and it seems to work well. I think this could prove a very worthwhile update for us. I've just noticed another problem with 'default=now', though. The date is being correctly assigned to the property. However, if I try to use that date to create a 'one-step' style page name, then the word 'now' appears in the generated page title, rather than the date itself. Strangely, this problem doesn't seem to be affecting 'default=current user', as that correctly populates the page name too, if required.
