Hello - your method appears to be what I'm looking for. Can I ask your
opinion on a post I made to mwusers.com today?

My wiki is set up as a cooperative portal for a small group of
researchers.

We have about 100 recorded lectures and informal talks by our group's
founder we want to transcribe. We are using one page on our MediaWiki
installation for each talk.

Each page has several associated data elements: recording date,
location, audio quality, people present, etc.

I currently have a data table at the top of each page to show and keep
track of this information (formerly kept in an Excel spreadsheet).

I'd like to incorporate this data into the Wiki database (adding a
table) so that it

1) would automatically display on the appropriate page
2) can respond to SQL queries, for reports or ad-hoc queries
3) can be edited from within the page itself.

Of the options available I have tried a SQL tag extension that lets me
execute an SQL query to display the data.

The next step to tackle is EDITING from within the page - using some
kind of editable data grid.

Do you know of an existing method that would permit this? If not, how
would you direct me in engineering a solution?

To clarify, the data grid would display the current value in the
database, which can be edited.

Unlike with the "normal" MediaWiki page editing, I would presume that
changes to the data wouldn't show in the page history, or is this
somehow possible?

I'm a total noob with MediaWiki - and would appreciate your guidance.

Thanks very much

Steve
