Hi all, as some of you wondered already about the recent quietness at least on my part, here is an update on our current actions. Denny and I are about to do a lot of behind-the-scenes work and planning. While this keeps us from (rather necessary) development activity, we probably spend more time than ever on SMW-related activities.
Some of the current actions involve industry cooperations that I cannot detail too much at the moment. Be assured, however, that all SMW-related efforts in those projects will immediately feed back into the open source. The current intense planning phase is very important to enable a *significantly* larger team of developers to contribute within the next months. Stay tuned for upcoming features. Besides this work, we still found time to finally do some proper performance evaluation with a full-featured Wikipedia copy. Lacking the assiduous community of the original, we are importing a large number of semi-automatically generated annotations into the system, and run queries over it. This work will be the basis for upcoming performance improvements, which some of the large-scale wikis using SMW certainly will welcome (yes, Archiplanet, we are aware that the simple semantic search does not scale to 75.000 triples per relation ;-). Also, it is fun to do real semantic queries on Wikipedia, and we might make the test server public when it is sufficiently stable. Of course, we are also planning own implementation work. On my part, this especially includes the inclusion of all the patches that were submitted since our last release. As long as a patch does not jeopardise stability or conflicts with planned implementations, it should be included before the next release. So thanks to all users and contributors for the continued support, and please bear with us if we are not overly responsive towards email requests at the moment.
