Hi, as University of Padua (Italy), we are choosing the Semantic Mediawiki for a project called "EduOntoWiki"; as (free) software developer, I'm just studing the software and trying to imagine the best ways to adapt SMW for our porpouses. An important need for us is the creation of an ontology's "map", integrated in the wiki, which will offer to the students the possibility to browse through the contents and discover, step by step, the semantic relations between the concepts. Is there anyone of you that has experience with similar needs? Any suggestion is really appreciated.
best, gabriele BTW, I really hope that this project, which involves seven Italian universities, can also be a "real-world scenario" to test SMW. a brief introduction to the EduOntoWiki project the project was developed with the aim of building an integrated semantic learning environment called "EduOntoWiki". The project uses a Wiki software where user can construct, discuss, and contextualise ontologies suitable for describing the actors, processes and technologies of educational sciences. If we then assume that the learning process is never confined to the materials used in an online course, but that it is also the fruit of the interaction between the members of a group, with the wiki-based ontologies we provide a scaffolding (Devedic, 2003) which will facilitate communication and the construction of meaning among all the actors involved (academics, teachers, tutors, students) and at the same time represent the structure and contents of the discipline. The ontologies created would be useful not only to the academic community but as far as its didactic and real-world use is concerned, to students, teachers, and people interested in real world applications and training contexts. The project takes in account the state of the art of educational research in Italy, and in other European countries such as France, Spain, Germany and England. The three thematic areas studied, at least in the first step of the project, are: didactic planning, educational communication, assessment and evaluation. The ontologies are "negotiated" in the sense that there are working exchanges and dialogical moments in order to develop a circularity of information flow within the virtual community of the experts involved in the project and other actors participating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
