Update: I got a fast reply from the Halo team, and I am happy to say that forking is as little in their interest as it is in ours. We will have a joint meeting for future coordination soon so as to define improve the coordination of our efforts. I take from the first reply already that availability of Halo as an extension is an intention of the project (so the current lack of instructions on how to install Halo in this fashion appears to be only a temporary shortcoming of the documentation).
