We have added a hook that invalidates the cache of a page right after it is stored to prevent queries on a page from showing outdated results related to that very page. Maybe this causes the problem. You can try to set $smwgAutoRefreshSubject = false; in LocalSettings.php to turn this off. I do not see other changes that could have an effect on performance when saving pages.
