Ok. As I recall, a from scratch SMW install on a postgres based mediawiki 
instance worked in previous versions without a problem — though the unused 
properties page was broken.

If you then go to upgrade to a later version of SMW, say trunk, you'd need to 
run some database upgrade code, and that would break. 

So what you'll need to do is install SMW 1.5, create a few properties on a 
page somewhere, snapshot that, then install trunk and run the upgrade 
procedure. I'm pretty sure my patch to  bug #26202 fixes the problem.
