maybe I am stating the obvious, but did you run MediaWiki's update.php
maintenance script [1]? Usually that also updates the SMW upgrade_key.

I’ve looked into this and see it has been an issue for a couple of
years and I was wondering if a patch or official fix / guide to fix
has been released yet? I have tried a few methods to resolve this
error and it’s not budging. Thank you for your time.
