In fact, this error is not specific to virtual appliances. It occurs with many 
of the normal MediaWiki installations as well. The problem is that SMW has to 
add some tables to the DB and there is no standard way for extensions to do 
this in MediaWiki. During normal usage, extension code is of course not 
supposed to add tables to the DB, so it is OK that those priveliges are 
disabled by default. Maybe we can add a maintenance script for cleanly 
installing SMW in the future.

I am not sure whether there is a difference between virutal and normal 
operation. If you have helpful tips to share about this issue, then
