Hi.

I have just added a new (rather Web-2.0, but anyway) feature to SMW: you can
now have arbitrary customised "service links" in the factbox. You know that
geographic coordinates already showed some additional links to online maps in
the factbox. But those links were hardcoded and could not be changed in the
wiki.

The new mechanism allows wiki admins to add and modify link (templates) for
display in the factbox. Users can then attach any number of such
admin-defined services to any attribute, thus making it display the according
links. For details, see the docu [1].

You can do a lot with the new feature, since you can use it on any attribute.
You can have direct links from string attributes to search engines, or from
integer attributes to IMDb. It also solves the problem of scale for online
mapping services: different attributes now can use different zoom factors for
their mapping links. Ontoworld already provides a direct Swoogle link with
the Attribute:Namespace now, see e.g. [2]. In spite of all this, wiki sysops
still retain control over what is linked in the factbox, while users are free
to use or not use the services provided by the wiki (sysops).

We also hope that this feature can be used to further motivate wiki users to
annotate their texts.

Cheers,

Markus
