I found the problem.  It turns out I had the PHP extension mbstring.dll
turned off, and once I turned it on, everything kicked in.

I don't know.  I assumed you tried attributes beside one named
"Attribute", that might confuse the code.

Turn on debugging (try
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/How_to_debug_MediaWiki ) and you should
see something in the log.
