Looks like the submitter himself updated 
http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9857 to INVALID.  I 
reopened it.

This error implies something unexpected went wrong during parsing, and 
during save SMW got this error.  It works for me in an existing 
installation and I tried various combinations of 
$smwgEnableTemplateSupport and $smwgShowFactbox in SMW_Settings.php.

Perhaps but I bet SMW didn't record any semantic relations.

Yes, because parsing failed.

You later updated the bug to say the factbox did appear.  So is the bug 
gone for you for good?

What other extensions are you running?  Can you send the contents of 
your installation's Special:Version page, or provide a link?  Also your 
values for $smwgEnableTemplateSupport and $smwgShowFactbox
