E.g. on ontoworld.org, Template:Person has an [[affiliation::]] relation, and when you go to Relation:Affiliation, it shows the affiliations established by the person template. If the relationship appears on the publication page's factbox and not on the Relation::Has_author page, then check for namespace problems. And it could be a Mediawiki caching issue as others run into.
