What would it take to enable trans-coding in the sbc module?
to enable transcoding, the b2bua would need to be extended to allow
switching between signaling-only, RTP relay and full audio processing
modes. If multiple codecs are activated for a direction, relaying of
supported codecs and transcoding of unsupprted ones need to be added
to the audio processing.
Furthermore, DTMF transcoding (in-band detection and sending as
4733/2833 RTP payload) may be desired.
Then, the sbc module would need to get
- allow configuration of destination codec capabilities
- determining missing codec capabilities and activation of transcoding
- and additionally, codec preference (sorting) may be desired
For most applications, software based transcoding may be sufficient,
when only few channels are transcoded into high complexity codecs. For
high density transcoding of high complexity codecs, application of
specialized DSP hardware may be desirable.
