Actualy i have started from trying to update old module and than decided 
to start over from scratch.
Sems have changed a lot too during those few years.
As for hardware it should work with all cards supported by mISDN
http://www.misdn.org/index.php/MISDN_compatible_Hardware
http://www.linux-call-router.de/cards.html
i'm quite sure that if someone was able to use asterisk witch chan_misdn 
should be able to use gateway module too.
One more note: only TE mode is suported currently - co you may connect 
it to isdn line not isdn phone.
