Croatian fans chant fascist slogans in Italy

MILAN -- Supporters of Croatia's national football team on Sunday
caused incidents during a UEFA qualifier played against Italy in
Milan, that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Some 20 minutes before the end of the match they set alight a second
batch of flares after which smoke engulfed the pitch. The referee
ordered the footballers off the pitch and the police removed the
visiting fans from the stands.
The first interruption of the game happened in the first half of the
game when flares were lit. Moreover, the Croatian fans once again
promoted fascist ideology during a football game, when they shouted
the Ustasha salute, "For home ready" ("Za dom spremni"), chanted
"Let's go, Ustashas," and unfurled a giant flag with the Ustasha
symbol, the letter "U", printed on it.
The Ustasha regime was in power in the WW2-era, Nazi-allied
Independent State of Croatia (NDH), an entity responsible for running
death camps where Serbs, Jews, and Roma were murdered.
Considering UEFA's "zero tolerance" stance toward political, and in
particular fascist messages during football games, Croatia is expected
to face new penalties.
After Serbia's fans several years ago caused unrest in Genoa, Italy,
Italy was awarded a 3-0 victory while Serbia was ordered to play the
next match in an empty stadium.
