Phoenix Serbian church vandalized on Orthodox Christmas Eve

Early yesterday morning was the Serbian Orthodox Church's Christmas Eve. That would make Wednesday, Christmas day. Imagine the shock for these parishioners of this Serbian Orthodox Church in North Phoenix when they showed up on their Christmas Eve, and this is what they found. "These are symbols from the Croatian Fascist Party, they're calling Yustachi, the Y stands for Yustachi and they have the latin cross... it's like all that right-wing thing going on in Europe right now, all the facism, all the racism, the zenophobia and someone is bringing it here," said Alex a parishioner. The markings evoke feelings of fear and anger. Nearly 85% of the parishioners at Saint Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church escaped as refugees during the ethnic cleansing in the Yugoslav wars in the 1990's. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who is of Serbian decent, has offered to help with the investigation. "To have vandalism on that day is extra disgusting... I think this was especially disgusting because this was the Orthodox Christmas," said Mark Brnovich. It's bringing back bad memories and they're afraid usually something like this happens and it's followed up by burning the place down, or bombing it, or some kind of terrorism, they're just terrified," said Alex. The prayer of many of this parish on this Orthodox Christmas is for justice.
