Macedonia, Croatia sign defence co-operation agreement

Peter Dunai, Budapest - IHS Jane's Defence Industry
09 February 2015

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Croatia signed a
military technical co-operation agreement during the visit of Croatian
defence minister Ante Kotromanovic, the Croatian Ministry of Defence
announced on 10 February.

The agreement covers work with Croatian experts in the inspection and
testing of Macedonian helicopter assets. Russian/Soviet made
Mi-8/17/24 helicopters constitute the bulk of the Macedonian Air
Force.

In turn Croatia will receive 32 hours of flight simulator time for Mi
helicopters in the Macedonian Centre for Pilot Training.

ANALYSIS

Although the official communiqué did not elaborate on details of the
helicopter testing agreement, sources in Zagreb told IHS Jane's that
the inspection and testing of the Macedonian helicopters would "with a
high probability" be conducted by specialists of the Croatian ZTC
(Aeronautical Technical Centre), which has the necessary equipment and
facilities to do the job including a metrological laboratory for
calibration of measurement and testing equipment, a non-destructive
testing laboratory, a chemical laboratory for polymer, elastomer,
seal, coating and adhesives definition, and a universal test bench for
rotating and non-rotating hydraulic components.
