Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia has given a statement where he praises the
Serbian democracy and encourages the Serbian people to involve themselves in
the upcoming election.

In a statement on Facebook, His Royal Highness writes: “Dear citizens of
Serbia, parliamentary and local elections are being held on Sunday 21 June. The
right to vote is a democratic right guaranteed by the Constitution. The more
people go to the polls, the more relevant the election result will be. In
Serbia, democracy is still young, and this is an opportunity to show everyone
that we are a mature and responsible democratic society that cares about its
state. Our country needs a strong government in the period ahead because great
challenges await us. We will get a strong government only if as many people as
possible go to the polls and clearly say what option they support by rounding
up the number on the ballots and in no other way.”

The 2020 Serbian parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on 21 June
2020. Initially, the elections were organised for 26 April 2020, but they were
postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. When the Serbs go to vote in June,
they have not one, but two royalist parties to choose from. Both of the parties
have the same goal; to have Crown Prince Alexander crowned King of Serbia.

The Serbian royalists are currently split in two

. The SPO, Serbian Renewal Movement, is currently fighting over the same
royalist votes with the POKS, Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of
Serbia.

When Royal Central Senior Europe Correspondent Oskar Aanmoen interview the
Crown Prince at his Palace in Belgrade in 2017

, he was asked what he thinks of having the support of these royalist
movements.

The Crown prince then said: “Well, there is great interest; there is no doubt
about it. And we notice a tremendous feeling for the history of our country. We
were always a monarchy. My father never abdicated in 1945. The Kingdom [of
Serbia] was stolen from him on the 29th of November 1945. The objective is a
constitutional monarchy, not an absolute monarchy. We respect everyone,
regardless of religion, ethnic origins and political persuasion provided they
believe in the democratic process”.
