While Croatia celebrates 25 years of the police-military 'Storm' operation
which re-took control of the territories held by rebel Serbs for four years,
since the start of the war in 1991, Serbia mourns the victims during and after
the operation ended.

Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Mihajlovic said that the different mood
in two countries "should not discourage us to, for the sake of the future, go
toward rapprochement, better neighbouring cooperation and try to resolve open
issues."

She added the Serbs would never forget their victims, but that it was important
for both Serbia and Croatia "to look for ways different from those in the past
and that, as the neighbours, build good relations."

"(Croatia) will celebrate the operation of ethnic cleansing of our people
during which most of the victims were civilians, older people, women and
children. This brutal crime in the middle of Europe remains a crime without
punishment. The time hasn't brought justice to the victims, and it will remain
a shameful page in the book of the European history," Nebojsa Stefanovic,
Serbia's Interior Minister said.

Serbia's Humanitarian Law Centre called for justice for the victims and the
responsibility of both sides.

"While in Croatia the anniversaries of the 'Storm' operation are celebrated,
ignoring the crimes during and after it, the state commemorations in Serbia
abuse the victims for political purposes," HLC said in a statement.

Serbia's opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) accused President
Aleksandar Vucic of manipulating with people on the occasion of 'Storm.'

SSP said that political representatives of the Serbs in Croatia should not
allow "the same people from Belgrade who berry the historical responsibility
for the fate of the Serbs in Croatia" lead their politics.
