Daniel Server, a professor at the 'John Hopkins' Univerisity and a Balkan
expert, said on Tuesday he was "not sure" that anything would be signed between
Belgrade and Pristina at the White House on September 4, but did not exclude
"some economic deal, including the Trepca mine and Gazivode Lake power
producer."

"Besides, an agreement on some special economic zones along the Kosovo-Serbia
border is possible," he said."

"I doubt there will be any deal on big political issues related to the
normalisation of relations (between Belgrade and Pristina). The impression is
that Belgrade doesn't want to recognise Kosovo as an independent and sovereign
country. In contrast, Pristina doesn't want to accept anything short of that,"
Server told the Belgrade independent Danas daily.

He added that Kosovo's Prime Minister Avdulah Hoti had a slim parliamentary
majority and did not want to risk early elections in which former premier and
the leader of his Self-determination party would almost certainly win.

On Monday, the Belgrade pro-government Politika daily

, cited its sources saying the Washington meeting would focus on
infrastructural projects worth more hundreds of millions of Euro.
