Vucic says Serbia is stage for East-West proxy war Author:Reuters 2 minutes _____ President Aleksandar Vucic told Reuters on Monday that Serbia is the stage for a proxy war between East and West. Speaking a day after a protest march against Europride was staged in central Belgrade, Vucic said that he couldn’t say that was part of the proxy war. “I cannot say that it was a proxy attack because there were many ordinary people there…but whether there is a proxy conflict in Serbia…there is one, no doubt about that, East and West,“ he said. Vucic said that Serbia’s finances were resilient enough to secure alternatives to Russian energy to tackle supply shortages expected over coming months, even though the country depends heavily on Russian oil and gas. He said that official Belgrade was seeking fuel supplies wherever it could. Vucic said Serbia was seeking fuel supplies wherever it could. “We have to pay the price of the war on European soil,” he said and added that oil would be imported from Iraq and he would try to speak with Venezuela. “We would take from wherever. We are not squeamish,” Vucic said, adding that there is enough natural gas for 60 days in storage in the country and in neighboring Hungary.
