The president of the Movement of Socialists, Aleksandar Vulin
<https://www.telegraf.rs/teme/aleksandar-vulin> , reacted over the weekend to
the current situation between Belgrade and Pristina.

This is his statement in full:

"On January 22, 2014, as minister without portfolio in charge of Kosovo and
Metohija <https://www.telegraf.rs/teme/kosovo-and-metohija> , I led a
delegation of Serbia in talks with the European Union on the subject of Chapter
35 (in the accession process). On behalf of the state of Serbia, I clearly said
that Chapter 35 is not a substitute for the Brussels dialogue and that status
issues cannot be resolved in it, as well as that Chapter 35 is not a space for
initiating new topics that were not agreed upon in the Brussels dialogue.

Representatives of the European Union confirmed that it was as I said, but nine
years later, Chapter 35 has become a tool of blackmail for the EU to get what
they failed to get in the negotiations with Aleksandar Vucic and Serbia, a tool
that should be used to put pressure on Serbia to abandon itself and recognize
so-called Kosovo.

A country cannot become a member of the European Union without closing all the
chapters, including Chapter 35, and you cannot close Chapter 35 without
recognizing Kosovo. Surely there is a word other than 'liars' that describes
the set of values of the European Union and the people who represent it, but I
can't think of it at the moment.

The European Union is led by liars, and we should stop lying to ourselves that
we will become a member of the EU without recognizing Kosovo and without
quarreling with Russia. Serbia is too small a country to commit such a big
abomination as to recognize Kosovo and introduce sanctions against Russia.

Serbia led by Aleksandar Vucic and Serbia whose government is formed by our
coalition will not recognize Kosovo's independence and will not impose
sanctions on Russia," Aleksandar Vulin said in his written statement commenting
on EU's attempts to amend Chapter 35.

Speaking earlier in Dubai about the plan to add the Ohrid agreement to the
chapter, Pesident Vucic said that if the EU did that -i.e., asked for Kosovo to
be allowed to join the UN if Serbia wanted to close the chapter - "then it is
clear they (the EU) don't want Serbia."

"I don't believe that's possible and I simply think they will not make such a
decision," Vucic said on Friday.
