The Serbian parliamentary delegation canceled a meeting at the European
Parliament which was planned to discuss the country’s European integration
progress.

A press release on the European Parliament portal said that the Serbian
Parliamentary Delegation canceled because of the adoption of the budget.

“The 16th European Union – Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary
Committee (SAPC) scheduled in Strasbourg on 27 and 28 November 2024 has been
postponed to the beginning of next year. The Delegation of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Serbia had to cancel its participation due to
circumstances related to the adoption of the budget law in Belgrade,” the press
release said.

The meeting was supposed to discuss the state of play of accession negotiations
and EU-Serbia relations, including Clusters 1 and 4, alignment with the common
foreign and security policy, the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and economic
development.

The cancellation comes in the wake of a serious incident in the Serbian
parliament between the opposition and ruling coalition MPs.

Earlier on Monday, EU member state ambassadors failed to agree to open Cluster
3 in Serbia’s accession talks. EU Chair Hungary proposed opening Cluster 3 but
did not get the agreement of other member states, the Serbian state TV (RTS)
said, adding that the main reasons were Belgrade’s failure to align with EU
foreign policy and sanctions against Russia as well as rule of law problems and
relations with Kosovo.
