Serbia is developing new gas supply routes and sources with the support of the
European Union, Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said,
as quoted by national broadcaster RTS.

Djedovic Handanovic conferred Thursday with the Head of the EU Delegation to
Serbia and Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath on energy security and investments
in energy infrastructure.

“These are gas interconnectors with Romania and North Macedonia, which we aim
to complete by 2027 and have operational by 2028,” the Minister told RTS. She
added that there are challenges related to the financing of gas infrastructure,
which need to be addressed.

The Serbian energy minister recalled that the feasibility study for the
Serbia–North Macedonia gas interconnector has been completed and that the
preparation of the design and technical documentation is in its final stage.

“Through the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector, we are successfully supplying
natural gas from Azerbaijan, from which we receive secure quantities. We are
also expanding our underground gas storage facility while using storage
capacities in Hungary to ensure supply security and reserves in case of
disruptions,” Djedovic Handanovic added.

Ambassador von Beckerath underscored that energy is an important area of
cooperation between the EU and Serbia, emphasizing that the EU stands ready to
support Serbia in the preparation and construction of alternative energy supply
routes, RTS also reported.
