A term sheet agreement on the project was signed on February 15 at the
inaugural session of the bilateral strategic partnership
council<https://seenews.com/news/serbia-azerbaijan-finalise-talks-on-500-mw-gas-plant-near-nis-parl-speaker-1282172>
chaired by Vucic and Azerbaijan's president Ilham Aliyev who paid an official
two-day visit to Belgrade, Vucic told a joint press conference on Sunday, as
seen in a video file published by public broadcaster RTS.

The project was discussed by Azerbaijani state-owned national oil and gas
company Socar and Serbia's state-owned gas importer and distributor Srbijagas,
Vucic said. He noted that in the next two to three months Serbia will try to
complete everything necessary in order to quickly embark on preparing the
conceptual design study and the main project design, after which construction
will start. Construction works are expected to last just over two years.

Vucic said the gas power plant will be built under a 50/50 joint venture
partnership between the two countries, with Azeri companies supervising the
project. He noted this will be the first of many gas-fired power plants that
Serbia plans to build in the near future in its attempt to increase the share
of green electricity in its energy mix.

Serbia and Azerbaijan have been expanding their energy ties in recent years,
with Serbia aiming to reduce its reliance on Russian gas. In November

Serbia signed an agreement for the supply of up to 400 mcm of Azeri gas per

on<https://seenews.com/news/serbia-boosts-winter-gas-supplies-from-azerbaijan-1264106>
agreed on additional supplies during the 2024-2025 winter season.

In September
2025<https://seenews.com/news/srbijagas-gazprom-to-sign-new-gas-supply-deal-in-oct-1282023>,
Srbijagas' head Dusan Bajatovic said that Serbia reached an agreement with
Azerbaijan for the supply of up 2.5 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas per day,
without providing further details.
