I will be at the EuroLAN summer school in Cluj, Romania from July 24-August 1. More information about the school may be found here: http://www.cs.ubbcluj.ro/eurolan2005/
I will be teaching a 1 day class that revolves around SenseClusters. It will consist of a 3 hour tutorial and then a 3 hour practical/lab session, using our web interface. (I am praying for good network connections and strong performance from mighty marimba :) I will also be bringing the remainder of our CDs to the school, so that people can install SenseClusters locally if they wish. (BTW, we distributed 450 CDs at ACL and AAAI, so there are about 50 left for the summer school). The outline of the class is here: http://www.cs.ubbcluj.ro/eurolan2005/profs-mat/Pedersen.htm And, you can see my slides here: http://www.d.umn.edu/~tpederse/EUROLAN-2005-PEDERSEN.ppt I suspect that this represents the start of what might turn into a more formal tutorial on SenseClusters, so if you happen to look at any of this material please let me know what you think! This will be the first time making such an extensive explanation and demonstration of SenseClusters, but, as I plan for this I feel like six hours is not nearly enough time. There is a lot of functionality in the package, and I think it's pretty fun to play with too. I have been running it quite a lot lately in preparation for this event, which gives me a newfound appreciation for everything it does, and all the very hard work Amruta did in getting SenseClusters off the ground, and in the hard work Anagha has done in sustaining and improving that base. BTW, the journey itself is unprecedented in length for me - I will fly from Duluth to Detroit, Detroit to Amsterdam, and then Amsterdam to Bucharest. Then, I will ride the train from Bucharest to Cluj. And I will take a taxi from my home in Duluth to the airport, so it is a journey that indeed consists of "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" - there was a popular movie in the USA by that title a few years ago... Anyway, that's where I will be next week. I expect to have reasonably good email access, so please feel free to correspond as usual.
