Its friggin' 3am right now and I'm still working on my car. I think theres
something wrong with me. Good thing its the long weekend.

I was soundproofing my car for the last 4 hours working on the ceiling of
the car. I removed the entire headliner and applied 4 layers of mastic sheet
to the sheetmetal to give it more mass. I couldn't believe how cheap the
headliner was, it was just cardboard with a thin fabric cover to match the
color of the interior. Above that was just two thin sheets of jute and then
the sheetmetal. If I tap on the sheetmetal with my knuckles I could feel the
sheetmetal vibrate and could easily hear an almost tuning fork effect. No
good when you want to have the car as quiet as a Lexus LS400.
After applying the mastic sheet I got some thicker jute from HomeDepot and
used a hotglue gun to glue it up. So then the end result will be
sheetmetal,4 layers of mastic sheet, 1/2inch jute and then the headliner.
Its a real shitty job working upside down and trying to glue up jute though.
I had a blob of hot glue drip down on my neck which burned and hurt like a
bitch. Then I panicked trying to get the glue off my neck before it further
burned and somehow I managed to get the scorching hot tip of the glue gun on
my index finger. So.... I doused my index finger with hot glue The glue has
this weird tendency to stick to skin and stay put [go figure..]. I think I
sat there for a good 10 minutes cussing out loud and peeling glue off my
hand till it started to blister. Anyways, I just wrapped everything up
neatly in electrical tape and finished gluing up the rest of the jute.
Installed the headliner and voila, done. Now I can tap on the roof and all I
hear is a THUD.
Tomorrow, I'll finish off the A/B/C-pillars by filling them up with
expanding foam.

Oh yeah.. The best way to clean a engine compartment is by hand. Get a clean
paint brush and a bucket of water with some Simplegreen in it. Hose down the
engine to get it wet and clean away. Rinse off with a low pressure hose. All
done... I never trust that no-touch cleaning stuff. Convenient yes, but
what do you think they put into that stuff that makes the grime come off
with you giving any elbow grease.

I'm going to bed. Later........
