There is a lot of talk about doing engine swaps lately and I know an engine
swap (SR20DE, DET, Bluebird, etc) is a great way to get more power but I
think anyone considering it really needs to do a lot of research before they
actually decide to go through with it. There are so many things you need to
buy to replace from the 1.6 to the 2.0(2 motor mounts, tranny, power
steering, alternator, clutch, distributor, wiring, ECU just to name some).
I just hope the people on this list who don't know a lot about their own
motors and write up about doing engine swaps learn a lot before they take
their car to the shop and try to get it done because there are plenty of
shops that will take advantage of someone who doesn't know any better. I am
not saying people on this list don't know better but sometimes someone will
write up without knowing what motor is in their own car and is considering
doing an engine swap (trust me, not flaming anyone!!!). It's a lot of work,
money, time, and effort to get the swap done. I know plenty of people who
have done the swaps and it's a lot to find all the parts and get it done.
So, please before anyone starts to buy a motor, just search the Se-R
archives or talk to people who have done it. Don't get taken by any shops
or try to do it yourself unless you know what you are doing. But good luck
to anyone!!!
