If installed properly, I can only imagine that harnesses are safer than 
factory belts. The straps are much wider and there are more of them--force 
of impact is spread out over a greater surface thus reducing pressure per 
unit of area thus reducing chance of bodily harm.

To my knowledge, they are less than $100 per harness. Might be wrong on 
that, though. Plenty of places carry them online.
