Did some dyno testing today on a GA16 powered car. Apparently the stock
exhaust system sucks as the car gained 5 hp to the wheels just from a cat
back! This is quite a lot for an NA car.
The exhaust system was 2" mandrel bend with a peforated core pre-silencer
with a peforated core main muffler. It will probably be sold as a Hotshot
part sometime soon.
We also did some experimenting with air filers and CAI's. Removing the
filter gained about 1-1.5 hp.
The Best CAI was 2.5" after the MAF and 3" before the MAF. This gained 2
more peak hp but it really made a difference from 4000-5200 rpm where it got
as high a 5 more hp, right in the midrange where you need it the most. The
CAI probably makes more power on the road than on the dyno because the dyno
does not take cold air into accound as much. This will be sold by Hotshot
sometime in the near future.
These mods did not hurt power anywhere in the powerband. The GA16 seems to
respond well to mods so far.
We will be testing the Unorthadox UD pulley in a few days.
