<<Does anyone know what the stock braking distance of a b13 sentra (base
model)?>>
Well, what do you know.....I just happen to have my issue of SCC from
Oct. '98 that I was reading yesterday. In this issue, they are doing the
NX2k brake upgrade.....funny how life reveals itself.
The upgrade was done on an SE-R, so I don't know if your car's
time/distance will be effected.
60-0 stopping distance:
Stock SE-R brakes: 169ft
NX2k front brakes: 152ft
NX2k brakes+NT555 tires: 148ft
Brake differences:
SE-R:
rotor diameter: 9.84in
weight: 9lbs
thickness: .67in
piston diameter: 1.81in
piston area: 2.56 sq. in.
NX2k:
rotor diameter: 10.12in
weight: 13lbs
thickness: 1.04in
piston diameter: 1.94in
piston area: 2.96 sq. in.
The article also talks that ugrading to Goodridge braided steel
brakelines to improve pedal feel.
Apparently you also want to use the NX2k pads as well. Using SE-R pads
could be a deadly decision b/c the NX pads are thicker than the SE-R
pads. Once the SER pads start to wear down too much, the pistons in the
calipers start to lose effectiveness b/c they are being extended so far.
Eventually, the piston will not be able to push the pad far enough and
there will be brake failure.
This is a very good article with lots of info. I don't know if Dave
Coleman is still with SCC, but if Mike K. could get permission from SCC
for us, I'll copy the entire article for the archives :-)
