Today I tested the Unorthodox Racing Underdrive Pulley. I was expecting a
gain of around 5 hp to the wheels which is typical for a SR20 powered car.
Since the GA16 has the same accesories but less power, I was hoping for even
a greater gain.
Unfortunatly the results were less than I expected. The Pulley made one
more peak hp but it was really more like two more peak hp because 200
hundred rpm away from the power peak was a soild 2 hp increse. In the
midrange there was a 3-4 hp gain.
Overall the pulley did help power, especialy the area under the power curve
and made the engine more free reving. Since it is fairly low priced, I
would say its a worhty mod.
Still the biggest bang for the buck so far is a cat back exhaust, followed
by the CAI with the UD pulley third. A Hotshot header and a JWT ECU and NOS
system will be tested next. I also plan on helping with the JWT cam
development and the Hotshot turbo kit. A big bore throttle body and
headwork will also probably be evaluated in the coming months.
