Check your brake fluid. Even if it does not look low, that is probably why
 the light is on.

Also in the master brake cylinder is a small round disk that floats on top of
your brake fluid, as the fluid goes down in the master cylinder this small
round disk will make contact with the bottom of your brake master cylinder
and completes an elect. Circuit and causes the brake warning light on the
dash to come on. Some times when your brake fluid has gotten so low in the
master cylinder to cause this light to come on it will get wedged in the
bottom of the brake master cylinder and when you add brake fluid it will not
float back up to the top. If this happens and this turns out to be the cause
of your brake light on the dash coming on, what you can do is get a CLEAN
paper clip and straighten it out and touch the small disk inside the brake
master cylinder lightly and un wedge it from the bottom and it will float
back up to the top and the brake light will go out. If you do not have any
brake fluid leaks in your braking system (that was the cause of the brake
light coming on in the first place) and every thing seems OK now, it will be
about time for new front disk brake pads most likely, because as the front
disk pads wear down more brake fluid is used from the brake master cylinder
to fill in the gap used as the front disk brakes wear out, and it would not
hurt to check the rear disks if so equipped or the rear brake shoes if drum
type brakes. Hope this has been of some help.
