When I first bought my 1997 Sentra GLE every thing was fine on the AM side of the stock radio/cassett player BUT after a few thousand miles I started having a lot of noise on the AM side of the radio, it was like (sort of) spark plug and alt. whine all at the same time, I took the car back into the dealership and they checked the alt, spark plugs, spark plug wires, dist cap, rotor, grounds and could not find any problems with any thing as all parts were in specs and nothing showed up as wrong. The dealership did install a new radio/cassett player and this took care of the problem for a few hundred miles then it came back again as bad as before, the tech who worked on the car called the "Sentra Service Hot Line" that's what they told me it was called and found out that for some unknown reason the hood on some models of Sentra's acts as an antenna and picks up all kinds of noise form many different sorces. The fix was to add a "jumper" or ground wire from one of the mounting bolts on the hood to a body bolt on the fire wall, he installed this wire and it has cleaned up all noises, whines, spark plug noises and I am getting AM radio reception as good as on the FM side, very clean and clear and I am now able to hear AM radio stations at great distances. Hope this has been of some help. Ron
